| Microreactors offer an elegant way to study complex reactions. Because the process is completely automated, a large number of experiments are possible in a short amount of time. In a collaboration between the departments of Analytical Chemistry and Organic Chemistry, Noud van Harskamp investigates the influence of several experimental factors, such as time and stoichiometry. He uses several types of experimental design to identify beforehand the most useful set of experiments to perform. Statistical modelling then leads to chemical insight: not only is it possible to identify the optimal set of conditions, but the coefficients of the equation can also be interpreted in a chemical way. |
